There are 1000 Mouhameds
- They deserve justice! -
Dear friends
On 08.08.2022 the Dortmund police killed 16-year-old Mouhamed Lamine Dramé in the Nordstadt. Mouhamed, who had fled from Senegal to Germany, was in a psychological crisis. Already 2 days before he had sought help in the psychiatric clinic of the LWL and had been sent home again. On the day of his death, the caregivers of his residential group were afraid that he might hurt himself. Therefore, they called the police. When the police arrived, Mouhamed was sitting in the far corner of a courtyard. He was not a danger to anyone. Nevertheless, the police decided to storm the courtyard. They attacked Mouhamed with pepper spray. Then, when he got up, they shot him with two Tasers and a submachine gun. Mouhamed died in the hospital shortly after. The death of Mouhamed Lamine Dramé has shaken us all.
The solidarity and the calls for clarification after the events of 8.8.2022 are remarkable, because this story is far from being an isolated case. Since reunification, at least 318 people have been killed by firearms alone in police operations. The majority of deaths at the hands of police officers (e.g. the death of Oury Jalloh) have not yet been adequately investigated, let alone dealt with. In Dortmund, the loss of Mouhamed has brought together different migrant and political groups. Together we want to call for a nationwide demonstration. Mouhamed's terrible fate is only one of thousands. They all deserve clarification and justice. Come with us to the streets to commemorate the victims. Let's join together to demonstrate strongly against the prevailing violent practices of discrimination and racism by the police.
Our solidarity and support goes to all the relatives who have lost people in police operations and all those affected by police violence, especially victims of anti-Black and racist, misogynist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, classist discrimination.
